We’ve ushered in the New Year with excitement and patience as we wait to see what 2014 has in store for us. But there’s nothing more disheartening than hearing the news that yet another actor has passed on, especially considering how 2013 took quite a few of our favourite movie stars. Last night it was announced that James Avery better known as “Uncle Phil” in the 90’s hit comedy show The Fresh Prince of Bel Air passed on after suffering complications from an open heart surgery.
With a rush of nostalgia come over us as we reminisced on how the towering chubby actor use to discipline his nephew “Will” and son “Carlton” played by Will Smith and Alfonso Ribeiro in countless episodes of the hilarious show. Although James never really featured in any block buster movies like his fellow actor Will Smith we saw Avery appear in shows such as “L.A Law” and “The Closer”
Fellow actress Tatyana Ali who played Avery’s daughter “Ashleigh” on the show, tweeted her condolences to the world, describing Avery as a great teacher and protector during her years on the show. It still amazes us at how we saw her literally grow in front of us throughout the airing of the show.
James Avery was 68 years old and lived by his wife Barbera Avery's, side. enjoy this scene from the sitcom, undoubtedly one of our favourite scenes from the show. R.I.P "Uncle Phil"
