Lagos state deputy Governor's husband is as poor as a church rat

While his former wife is enjoying all the perks of office as former commissioner in Lagos for many years and now elected Deputy Governor of Lagos State, Chief (Mrs) Adejoke Orelope Adefulire former husband who she bore three children for is living from hand to mouth and wallowing in abject poverty.
Global News learnt that Chief (Mrs) Adefulire and her former hubby used to live in one of the slums in Agege but along the line, there was a separation between the estranged couple.
Though, sources say the woman at that time was always in company of grassroots politicians. This, according to those in the know, the ex-husband was not comfortable with it. “He believes most of the women in politics are wayward and are rarely submissive to their husbands’’.
The ex- husband’s name is Toyin Kembi, and work as a driver at the Lagos Orthopaedic Hospital, Igbobi, Lagos.
The once upon a time couple had four children but lost one to the cold hands of death some years back. The three others, according to insiders’ information were relocated abroad by the politician when her status changed and had since kept her husband in the dark as regards their whereabouts. The source was quoted, “she shields the children from reaching out to their father”.
On why the former husband was not close to her despite the fruits or their past relationship, a source said Adejoke is a very strict woman.
It will be recalled that barely two years ago, her house help, Blessing Oji fell victim of some fraudsters on her way to buy few bottles of soft drinks. She was hypnotised and the men escorted her home, collected some of her madam’s jewellery from her and disappeared. Blessing was arrested and detained for over one year.
Then in the ministry as a Commissioner for Women Affairs, the Deputy Governor ordered that Blessing’s mother who is based in Calabar be brought to Lagos and she was detained alongside her daughter.
It was after the Human Rights activists stepped into the case that the elderly woman was released. According to reports, the elderly woman allegedly committed suicide when she discovered that her daughter was later taken to court.
Sources disclosed that the estranged husband still resides in one of the slums in Orile- Agege axis of Lagos said to be a crowded bungalow home with the street parlance, face-to-face house.
In front of Toyin Kembi’s house is also a rickety Mercedes Benz which neighbours say is up for sale. On the body of the Ambulance Benz, the phone number of Toyin Kembi is boldly inscribed; apparently, he used the vehicle as a hearse before it was grounded.
A dark and tall man, he is described as an easy going man who also socialises well. “His wife (Mama Nike) is the owner of the beer parlour (a local pub) at the frontage of the house where they live as tenants.
Not only Toyin Kembi is suffering from the Margaret Thatcher lifestyle of the former hairdresser turned deputy governor, Global News once reported how she is maltreating his father Alhaji Jimoh Orelope Laka,who was is suffering from stroke despite the fact that she is reaping from her father’s political influence.
Learnt that Alhaji Orelope Laka is one of the ardent supporter and adviser of Asiwaju Bola Tinubu and because of his loyalty to him he decided to reward him by appointing his daughter as one of his commissioner .Insiders allege that she decided to pay her father back in her own coin because of the way he sent her mother out of the house.
Further gathered that the crisis between her father and mother started when Alhaji questioned the paternity of the last son she had for him and when she couldn’t proffer a reasonable she was asked to leave the house. This we learnt infuriated the then hairdresser who felt so bad about the way her octogenarian father treated her mother who is the second of the ten wives the man had and she decided to pay him back.
